Personal Time:
Rocklyn recognizes that personal time off is a healthy balance amid an active summer semester. Hence, girls will have adequate time to relax, work quietly on projects, or practice for upcoming shows or tournaments.

Please note: A student cannot earn 2 Phys Ed credits at one grade level.

APPLICATIONS:
Enrolment: Not restricted to Rocklyn students. There are only 27 spaces available. Any young girl in high school qualifies for enrolment.
Included: Room and board, transportation to/from all external outing locations, equipment provisions, tools, materials, meals, staffing, laundry, craft items, camp shirts.

Activities Description:
(1) LANDSPORTS:
Archery: Girls use a bow and arrow to shoot at straw targets and are awarded certificates for each proficiency level achieved.
Team Sports: (Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, Lacrosse, Hockey) Beginners learn the rudiments of each sport and all girls improve their skills.
Tennis: Girls are placed in classes according to their ability (general or advanced). They develop and improve their skills through group instruction and by playing the game.
All Sports: (Croquet, Rugby, Fencing, Frisbee and Golf) Proper rules and skills are taught. However, these are elective sports.
(2) FINE ARTS:
Ceramics and French Pasta: French Pasta is self-hardening ‘white’ clay made of corn, starch, glycerin, white glue and cold cream. It is coloured with oil paints and can be molded into a variety of shapes to create mini-sculptures. Ceramics is combined into the one class. Both can be used to make pots, sculpture, bowls etc. with or without a potter’s wheel.
Photography: Girls can bring their own cameras provided they are digital. Photo Shop software is used to instruct on cropping, sizing, treating and printing pictures taken with an instructed view toward capturing nature at its’ finest.
Silk Screening: Water-based inks are used to transfer created designs onto paper and then fabrics, etc.
Stained Glass: Soldering techniques are taught for connecting glass pieces. Beginners start with straight edges while advanced learners use more intricate and complicated construction.
Jewelry: Beadwork, stringing, foil, brass and copper wire and sheeting are taught.
Woodshop: Make trays, bird houses, and other decorative items which can be painted or finished. Various soft and hard woods are utilized as well as tool such as sanders, and power hand tools
African Drumming: Drum circles, lessons on African rhythms and techniques.
(3) ARTS & CRAFTS
This category includes a wide range of activities such as painting and drawing, calligraphy, sewing, stitching, bead work, paper-Mache, creative writing, etc. Designed to stimulate creativity and develop skills and techniques.
(4) WATERFRONT:
Swimming: Swimming will be a required class activity. Instruction will be provided in all six levels of the Canadian Red Cross swim levels.
Canoeing: Beginners, intermediate and advanced classes will be offered.
Kayaking: Various levels of kayaking instruction are taught at Paisley River.
Sailing: Girls learn how to tie all knots; how to rig and sail “Sunfish”. More experienced girls improve their skills.
Water-Skiing: This class is taught at Boundless. Instruction is provided to both beginner and advanced girls who have passed their swimming/endurance “trip test”.
(5) EQUESTRIAN:
Horses are chosen to suit each rider’s abilities. Girls will be tested on their first day of the Semester. There are five instruction levels. Our aim is to encourage girls to become confident, knowledgeable horsewomen and to relate and understand horses with a caring, gentle attitude. This is achieved through sound instruction and established standards.
(6) ADVENTURE & TRIPS
(a) Camping and Hiking: This is all about enjoying the outdoors. Nature study, animal tracking, reading weather, trip planning, orienteering, and astronomy are just part of the elements of this program.
(b) High & Low Ropes: Ropes are set amidst the woods and presents a challenge for the most adventurous girls. This focuses on developing self-esteem, team building and trust. Over 20 different rope elements including a 50 foot rappelling platform, swinging rock into thin air, cargo netting, and zip line are guaranteed to get the adrenaline and the laughter flowing.
(c) Outdoor Cooking: Girls plan, prepare, cook and eat a variety of tasty and nutritious outdoor meals and treats.
