Two yeas ago I was a completely different person. I had a negative attitude towards everything, I was angry at everything and worst of all I didn’t know how to communicate my thoughts and feelings, at least not in a positive manner.
I [now] have a respect for myself and others. I know my boundaries and most of all I can communicate perfectly. If Rocklyn had not been a part of my life, I can’t imagine where I would be; definitely not graduated and on the way to college. … I was able to look back on specific situations, take them apart, and then comprehend them. Rocklyn taught me how valuable life is and how I as an individual contribute my intuitiveness, sensitivity and creativity to life. If there’s one thing I appreciate most about Rocklyn, it is the three values: Integrity, Health and Courage. I believe that Rocklyn has permanently imprinted them into my lifestyle.

Individual Counselling
One-on-one counselling is provided through three counsellors. Each counsellor has up to 9 students that she sees at least once per week. Each counsellor has a separate practice outside of Rocklyn, yet visits the campus from 1 3 days each week. The counsellors communicate with each student’s family on an as-needed basis. Individual counselling sessions may be more frequent than once weekly depending upon request and need. It is important to remember that the overall environment of Rocklyn Academy is that of emotional growth. As such once-per-week individual counselling usually provides an optimal level of individual support.
Kathy Chapple, is one of Rocklyn’s residential co-supervisors. Weekly “check-ins” are conducted with each student. These check-ins provide an opportunity for students to set and reflect on goals that are revisited on a weekly basis.
Equestrian Program
Rocklyn Academy provides an equestrian program (as a mandatory component of its Physical Education & Health Program) which delivers a strong confidence-building experience for its students.
Off-Campus Outdoor Adventures
Rocklyn Academy students enjoy off-campus outdoor challenges in a variety of venues. The activities include such elements as high ropes courses, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, camping, orienteering, wall climbing, rock climbing and environmental challenges. All activities are conducted with certified facilitators with the utmost of care and safety. These off-campus events take place over 3-4 days. The intent in part, is to break-up the academic year so that girls are off-campus at different times during the academic semesters.
There are many advantages to this component of the program. Staff and students form deeper and more positive relationships, the students always have a date to look forward to that is not so far in the future, students form deeper relationships with one another, staff get to understand students in new ways and vice versa, there is much more healthy fun built into the year, students and staff are more refreshed in the demanding academic program and students do not feel so “confined” to the campus.
Chiropractic
Each student is provided with the opportunity to see a chiropractor, on campus, every two weeks. Christine Harrison, D.C., Rocklyn’s Assistant Director of Academics, makes her chiropractic practice available on campus to students who have permission from their families. This is an optional support.
